You must plan the combination
of options that you plan
to use in the blade server because the use of an option affects whether
you can use other options.
Planning for options
Your blade server offers various configurations for memory
options, hard disk drive options, and I/O expansion card options.
Supported DIMMs
Your blade server contains
connectors for registered
dual inline memory modules (RDIMMs).
IBM Director
Use IBM Director
to perform network and system management tasks.
Planning for the operating system
The PS703 or PS704 blade
server is supported by AIX®,
Red Hat Enterprise Linux,
and SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server (SLES). The PS703 or PS704 blade
server also supports IBM i operating
system (formerly known as i5/OS™)
and the other supported operating systems as client operating systems
in logical partitions (LPARs) that the Virtual I/O Server creates
and that the Integrated Virtualization Manager manages.
Planning for PowerVM Editions
PowerVM® Editions
Standard is a base hardware feature of your BladeCenter® PS703 or PS704 blade
server. PowerVM Editions
provides the virtualization capabilities of the blade server. PowerVM Editions includes the
Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM) remote administrative console,
the Virtual I/O Server, Micro-Partitioning®,
and Partition Load Manager for AIX.
Planning for IBM Cluster Systems Management
Cluster Systems Management (CSM) for AIX and Linux is
designed to minimize the cost and complexity of administering clustered
and partitioned systems by enabling comprehensive management and monitoring
of the entire environment from a single point of control.
