Fan module running at full speed

If a fan module is running at full speed, check to see if the fault LED is lit on any of the fan modules.

Problem

One of the fan modules in the BladeCenter S chassis is running at full speed.

Investigation

Perform these steps to resolve the problem:
  1. Make sure that the advanced management module is installed and working. If a fan module loses communication with the advanced management module, it will run at full speed.
  2. Make sure the media tray is installed and working.
  3. Check the fan module to see if the fault LED is lit. If the fault LED is lit, replace the fan module.
  4. Reseat the fan module.
  5. From the advanced management module Web interface, go to the System Status page and check the fan module speed.
  6. Swap the fan module with another working fan module.
    1. If the problem fan module does not work, but the other fan module does work, replace the fan module.
    2. If the problem fan module now works, but the other fan module no longer works, call IBM support.
  7. Replace the fan module.
