If you are currently using SAS connectivity modules and
you want to replace them with SAS RAID controller modules,
make sure that you back up your existing data before you install the SAS RAID controller modules.
Note: If you are going to implement SAS RAID controller modules,
make sure that you have SAS hard disk drives installed
in any attached storage modules. The use of SATA hard disk drives is
not supported with SAS RAID controller modules.
Perform
these steps to replace
SAS connectivity modules with
SAS RAID controller modules:
- Back up all data that is currently stored on the hard disk drives. For
example, you can use SAMBA or an NFS mount through the operating system
to back up data.
- Shut down the operating system on all blade servers that access
the hard disk drives.
- Disconnect the BladeCenter S chassis from
all power sources.
- Remove the SAS connectivity modules from
I/O module bays 3 and 4.
- Install the battery backup units in
the media tray.
- Install the SAS RAID controller modules.
Note: Remember
that you must replace any SATA hard disk drives with
SAS hard disk drives.
- Connect the BladeCenter S chassis to
power.
- Configure the SAS RAID controller modules and
integrated shared storage by creating storage pools, creating volumes,
and mapping volumes to blade servers. You can use Storage Configuration Manager to
configure your integrated shared storage.
- Copy all data from the backup location to the new volumes, using
appropriate backup and restore tools.
