Removing the SPC chassis (shuttle)

The removal of a System Power and Cooling (SPC) chassis (also called a shuttle) should only be performed by a trained service technician.

Read Safety and Installation guidelines before performing this procedure.

  1. Shut down the operating systems and turn off any blade servers in the BladeCenter S chassis. See the documentation that comes with the blade server for detailed instructions.
  2. Disengage the blade servers from the front of the BladeCenter S chassis by opening the release handles on all blade servers.
  3. Disengage the media tray from the front of the BladeCenter S chassis by opening the release handle.
  4. Disengage the disk storage modulesfrom the front of the BladeCenter S chassis by opening the release handle on each disk storage module.
  5. Disconnect the power from the BladeCenter S chassis.
  6. Disconnect all cables from the modules in the rear of the BladeCenter S chassis.
  7. Remove any of the following modules that are installed in the rear of the BladeCenter S chassis:
  8. Remove the left and right shipping brackets from the BladeCenter S chassis and the rack, if they are installed.
  9. Loosen the captive thumbscrews on the SPC chassis release handles.
  10. Open the release handles on the shuttle (rotate the handles up) to disengage the SPC chassis from the BladeCenter S chassis.
  11. Using the handles, pull the SPC chassis out until it stops (approximately half way out).
  12. While supporting the shuttle with your hands, press the release latches on each side, and pull the SPC chassis out of the BladeCenter S chassis.
  13. If you are replacing the SPC chassis with a new SPC chassis, remove the midplane (see Removing the midplane) and any remaining module fillers for installation on the replacement part.
