To remove a DIMM, complete the following steps:

  1. Before you begin, read Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. Carefully lay the expansion blade on a flat, static-protective surface.
  3. Open the expansion blade cover (see Removing the blade server cover for instructions).
  4. If the IBM MAX5 expansion blade is installed on an BladeCenter HX5 blade server that is installed in a BladeCenter chassis:
    1. Remove the blade server from the chassis (see Removing the blade server from the BladeCenter chassis for instructions).
    2. Remove the IBM MAX5 expansion blade (see Removing an IBM MAX5 expansion blade for instructions).
  5. Locate the DIMM connectors (see Blade server connectors - IBM MAX5). Determine which DIMM you want to remove from the expansion blade.
Attention: To avoid breaking the retaining clips or damaging the DIMM connectors, handle the clips gently.
  6. Make sure that both retaining clips on DIMM connector from which you will be removing the DIMM are in the open position.
  7. Using your fingers, pull the DIMM out of the connector.
  8. If you are instructed to return the DIMM, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
