Your blade server offers various configurations for memory
options, hard disk drive options, and I/O expansion card options.
Use the following procedure to review your implementation
plans for options.
- Optional: Plan to install additional memory,
if necessary, before powering on the blade server.
- Optional: Plan to install a SAS disk drive,
if necessary, before powering on the blade server.
- Optional: Remove any expansion cards that are
already installed before powering on the blade server.
Installing
the operating system first causes the operating system to recognize
and configure the onboard ports before the ports on the expansion
card. If you install the Ethernet expansion card before the operating
system, the expansion card ports are assigned before the onboard ports.
- Optional: Plan to install the Integrated Virtualization
Manager (IVM) and the Virtual I/O Server if you are using the PowerVM® hardware feature that
is available on your blade server.
- Plan to install your operating system, either in the one
default physical partition environment, or after installing Virtual
I/O Server and setting up shared partitions in a virtualized environment
with the IVM.
- Verify that any expansion card that you are using is listed
on the ServerProven® Web
site in the list of supported expansion cards for the your blade server. For example, the BladeCenter® SFF
Gb Ethernet expansion card is no longer supported.
See the ServerProven website for information about
supported operating-system versions and all blade server optional
devices.
- Optional: Plan to install any expansion cards
that are not already installed.
- Plan to install any updated firmware for the your blade
server, the expansion card, the SAS disk drive, and the management
module.
