Removing an SSD carrier

You can remove an SSD carrier from a PS703 blade server, or from either the base unit or the expansion unit of a PS704blade server.

Perform the following procedure to remove the drive.

  1. Back up the data from the drive to another storage device.
  2. Read the Safety topic and the Installation guidelines.
  3. Shut down the operating system, turn off the blade server, and remove the blade server from the BladeCenter® unit. See Removing the blade server from a BladeCenter unit.
  4. Carefully lay the blade server on a flat, static-protective surface, with the cover side up.
  5. Open and remove the blade server cover. See Removing the blade server cover.
    Note: If you are servicing the base unit of a PS704 blade server, you must first remove the expansion unit. For more information, see Removing the expansion unit for a PS704 blade server.
  6. Remove the drive:
    1. Pull and hold the blue release lever  1  at the front of the drive tray.
    2. Slide the carrier case forward  2  to disengage the connector.
    3. Lift the carrier case  3  out of the drive tray.
  7. Remove any SSDs from the carrier case. See Removing an SSD.
  8. If you are instructed to return the SSD carrier, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
